Please. The stingray was in the wild. It was scared. It acted to defend itself. The fact that the barb went into Steve Irwin's heart was a freak accident. Nobody is going to hunt down or kill the stingray.

Don't make jokes about this. It's really sad.

The stingray is a type of ray. It's a kind of fish, but surely not something which lives in land and so we can't call it a serial killer (It's not a human!!!!!!!!!!!!!!) And it has a tail or barb which pierced to the heart during a diving expedition. He was above the stingray and it was an accident. eventhough its the tail of this creature, it's sharper than we think. So, environmentalists won't kill this aquatic fish.

Only to put your mind at rest, the particular type of Sting ray that killed Mr Steve Irwin is much like the common bee and once it's string (an 8 and 1/2 inch barbed razor) is released the creature will swim off and die. Only three people in the world have ever died in this manner, but my sympathy goes to his wife and children who will forever remember Australian fathers day as there dads last creature comfort. A Toast to you Croc Hunter!

Oh for petes sake! I cannot believe that anyone would think that a sting ray was a murderous creature.
It's time you people looked them up on the net or spoke with an expert on these magnificent animals.

They are shy and usually stay away from people, Steve was just in the wrong place at the wrong time and this freaky accident occured.

Now all of you...shoo!

Of course not it was an accident, they can't just hunt the stingray there was a risk getting that close to it and a terrible accident happend it was no ones fault.
It is sad that he has died this terrible way, it was a thing that he did all the time and he was just to close. I feel sorry for his family and friends, my heart goes out to them. And anyone who has anything bad to say about him should just keep it to themselves, what would it be like to someone who loved him to read someone saying mean things about him when he has just died.
Have some respect people don't make fun of the dead, even if you didn't like him it is disrespectful to him and his loved ones.

I think it's disgusting some of the comments on here concerning Steve Irwins death. Whether you liked the man or not the fact remains that this is a huge tragedy that has happened and that he has a wife and two young children that will be extremely upset. Have some respect you idiot.

Do you honestly think that Steve Irwin would want the stingray to be killed? I think not. I believe he thought the stingray was not at fault. This was an accident. Pure and simple.

I doubt they put down a stingray for acting like a stingray.

Of course not! steve was trying to hug the ray! The ray thought Steve was getting a bit too affectionate and decided to give him a wack! hundreds, if not 1000's of people get waked by stingrays every year...all over the world. This is the first I've ever heard of someone getting killed by one-let this be a lesson to all the animal huggers out there! animals don't love back!
