Labor Day, the first Monday in September, is a creation of the labor movement and is dedicated to the social and economic achievements of American workers. It constitutes a yearly national tribute to the contributions workers have made to the strength, prosperity, and well-being of our country.

My own thoughts on it:
It marks the unnofficial end to summer in the U.S.A. and is part of a list of holidays included in the "Monday Holiday Bill" that sanctions three day weekends for (unfortunately and ironically) the class of employed people who do not actually perform a lot of labor... ouch!
