I think you are safe to put them in the bin, but it could be worth calling the council and checking - one thing is certain, if you live in the UK you can not take them to a charity shop!

when i got rid of my old kitchen knives, i wrapped each knife up with lots of newspaper, then wrapped them up altogether then i placed them in a small box to fit.
