Short answer - Yes
And the good news is that it shouldn't cost you any more money to do that.
you need to use the right country code which is +1 for canada and the USA so, if your syster's number is 0987654 you need to dial 001987654

Yes you can as the person says earlier. if the phone you are texting begins 07 then it's a UK phone they have over there so edit the o and put+44 in place and save it. If it's a canadian phoneuse his/her number as usual. or get them to text you and save her number.
I once over heard a stuck up little 11 year old arguing with her mother. she was motified that when she sent a text to her new made spanish friend from her holidays couldn't understand the text that she had sent her when she came home. she believed that as she sent the text to her spanish friends phone the text would be translated into spanish as she was sending it to Spain. poor thing, she 's got so much to learn. thinking back however she did have blonde hair???

You can definately text w/ most carriers, but you should check w/ your company as it can cost anywhere between .10 to .25 (or more) per text message and they also charge you for the ones you receive. It might not sound like a lot but if you text a lot, it can add up.

With the prefix +44 infront of the number minus the first 0 at the start of the number, providing the mobile you are texting has international roaming i believe.

Yea you can text Canada from the UK, alot of UK networks now will let you add oversea's countrys to your text plan so it does not cost your more.
When texting oversea's there is no guarantee that it will get there but your phone network will still charge you for it, the only way you know its got there is when they text you back etc.

yes you omit the first 0 of thier mobile number and add the contry code for example turkey is 0090 so instead of 0535....... it starts 0090535....... so find out the country code and i presume you have her number and there you go easy as that, i think the country code for canada is 001 or if you like +i th plus replaces the 00 but if your sister actual has an english sim in her phone she will have had to set up roaming service before she went there to use it but english sims start07.... so if u txt her from your english it is 00447...... as it goes like a txt to uk and cost the same they pay more for roaming service
if you on o2 and have international talk and text bolt on then the txt cost the same as uk if not it varies from country to country
