I am considering purchasing a British Sci Fi Series only available as a Region 2 release. I want to buy them to basically copy them into Region 1 DVDs. Will I run into any issues because of the source DVD being PAL and Region 2? I have alot of experience backing up my own movies, but I have not attempted this sort of endeavor.

Please respond only if you have knowledge or experience with this. Not to be rude, but I have had way too many people answering my questions who don't have a clue and are flat out wrong!

Thanks!

Here's what I know. There are programs out there that strip the region coding from a DVD which allows it to be played anywhere. I think your biggest problem is going to be converting it from PAL to NTSC. There are also programs that do that, but I haven't seen any movie that was converted and the audio and video matched (the mouth matched the voice speaking) and the color wasn't quite right. It might be easier to find a DVD player that plays both PAL and NTSC. They don't advertise this, but some players do. Wal-Mart last year had a Magnavox that did that.

Do you have a DVD recorder that can record in both NTSC and PAL, and is also region free ? If not, it's not going to work. Region 2 DVD's won't even play on a American DVD player even if they're NTSC. I found this out when a friend in Japan sent me a DVD. I got an error message telling me the disc was for another region. You're going to have to buy a special DVD recorder to do what you want to do.

You won't find players sold in such retailers advertised and sold as other than region 1, it would be illegal to sell them as other regions, or region free. Store employees are not supposed to discuss actual or possible non-region 1 capabilities. Some lesser brand players can be region hacked. Major brands usually cannot.

you will have 4 x to reset the Region on your DVD drive then it will come locked and you may not get to play a dvd/cd in it again
you need to hack your DVD drive and get it to go to 0 then it will come a all region code DVD DRIVE
