Just one egg.

It has to be from a hen carefully bred to lay Grand-Canyon sized eggs, in that exact same shape too, so it slots in neatly.

After some time wasting research whilst I should be working I have found that the Grand Canyon has a volume of around about 40 Billion Cubic Meters (that’s very big), an egg has an average volume of 70cm3 (that’s very small).
Now the volume for the Grand Canyon I found on an American site so it’s different to the English definition of a Billion i.e. A billion in America is 10^9 so I will use this for my calculation.
Now don’t quote me on this but this is how I have worked everything out.

1000^4 / 70^3 = 143 eggs that fit in to 1 meter cubed (I think)

So then 40 billion cubic meters divided by 143 is 2797202797203

So how many eggs does it take to fill the Grand Canyon?

2797202797202

I think!

By the way Moose, the question was how many eggs fit into the Grand Canyon. You have worked out the volume in terms of water, eggs are not water and due to their oval shape there would be gaps between each egg thus my working out is slightly different and is based on the egg and shape

I think

nicely if this became interior the mathematics section i could decide the quantity of the grand canyon... which i'm particular somebody accessible has performed. Then i could discover the traditional quantity of a grade a extensive egg. Divide the grand canyon quantity with the help of the quantity of the egg and you have the hypothetical variety of eggs that would desire to slot interior the Grand Canyon. Why hypothetical? the guy some solutions up pronounced there could be problems with the stress of weight of better layers to decrease layers. there is two issues happening right here... one, if the egg is receiving equivalent stress from all components it won't wreck (have you ever tried to break and egg on your fist? rather annoying). 2, in case you gave it a stress loose base then they might have a raffle to stay to tell the story the mile severe stake of eggs. everybody concept in the event that they have been annoying boiled or regular?

The Grand Canyon has a volume of 40 BILLION cubic meters (1000 liters in a cubic meter). The volume of a medium chicken egg is 3 tablespoons (as per Hormel.com) or .04436 Liters....

40,000,000,000*1000/.04436

=901,713,255,184,851

901.713255184851 TRILLION Chicken Eggs rounded to the whole chicken egg. Exaclty!

That's one heck of a Colorado Omlette!

FURTHER FACTS

The average US citizen consumes 243 eggs in a year.

There are 295,734,134 people in the US.

This totals to 71,863,394,562 eggs per year.

If everyone sent their eggs to the grand canyon every year, the US would have to go without eggs for 12,547 years, 291 days, 15 hours, 18 minutes and 28.03 seconds (approximately) to fill the grand canyon.

Ignoring rates of evaporation and decomposition (let's say you found a way to freeze the grand canyon)... If you started at midnight last night (today being Sept 5th 2006), the grand canyon would be filled on Tuesday, the 24th of September in the year 14554 at approximately 3:18 pm. You have to calculate in an extra leapday every 3300 years to make up for the year not being EXACTLY 365.25 days... It's 365.24219878 days long (more or less).

That is given we maintian population control to todays numbers and if we haven't destroyed ourselves by then.

BTW: Lee Gift's math is a little off Below. There are 1000 liters in a cubic meter. If you use his volue for an egg (unsubstantiatedly large) 4-3/4 tablespoons... That's 70 milliliters or .07 liters. 14,285 of his eggs would actually be required to fill a cubic meter -- quite a bit more than what he calculates...

Well I have seen some silly questions, but this is the silliest of all.... You could not fill the Grand Canyon with eggs, They would be washed away by the river or you would be eaten by crocodiles...... SILLY FOOL

I dont think you would manage to fill it as by the time you almost got to the top the bottom eggs would have rotted and gone to mulch.
