Try a little humor with Janet Evanovich. She will have you laughing yourself right out of the wheelchair, girl.

A good book is one that catches you in thr first chapter. I too love Jodi Picoult, but I read many books, even Harry Potter! I recently read Twenty Times a Lady by Karyn Bosnak and loved every page of it. I read lost of fiction as I am trying to be a writer myself. I like to compare writing styles and written wit. I also read lots of factual books, like the ones by David Pelzer.
Oh, and I just noticed someone mentioned Sickened by Julie Gregory, I have read that as well, very good, though a bit disturbing in it's factual content.

The most important thing is riveting characters that you feel strongly about. Whether you love them or hate them, at least you care what happens to them. The plot should be compelling and move along at a steady pace, without being too predictable and avoiding cliches. If it's really good, you will feel sad because it's finished when you put it down for the last time.

Try Margaret George ( The Autobiography of Henry VIII, Mary Queen Of Scotland and the Isles), or if you like romancy-stuff, try Julie Garwood. Look up The Legend of the Celtic Stone( can't remember the guys name)

Have you read A Painted House (John Grisham)? If you enjoyed that, you'd like Cannery Row by John Steinbeck.

I like Patricia Cornwell books. They are very good and you really do build up a picture with all of her chacters. Start with Post-Mortem. The Scarpetta series which starts with Post-Mortem runs for about 13 books.

I defy anyone who appreciates good writing and wit not to love "Sleeping Arrangements" by Laura Shaine Cunningham.
It's a true memoir of a little girl brought up by two eccentric uncles. I think it is my favourite book of all time.
Please read it!
