Visiting New York 7th - 18th Sept 06. Wondering if there are any bookshops worth visiting (ie which sell a selection of pop -up/movable books, preferably old/out of print books as new titles are easy to find). Also wondering if there are any rare book collections/exhibitions on show containing pop-up/mechanical books. Any other ideas would also be much appreciated

The only exhibition or collection of pop-up books that I'm familiar with is at the University of North Texas. I've seen it twice. They have two online sites devoted to their collection...

Wonderful World Of Pop-Up Books:
some of the images show the book's movements and pop-ups.

Pop-UP and Movable Books: A Tour Through Their History (perhaps the better of the two sites)

You could try Barnes & Noble Book Stores:

105 5th Ave NYC
196 Broadway NYC
33 E. 17 Street NYC
maybe look them up in the phone book and ask the store if they carry a display on pop up books first...it might save some time running all over the city.
