Some people are against affirmative action because it doesn't work for them, so they hate it.

All my life I've been told it's wrong to judge someone by the color of their skin. Affirmative action turns around and does exactly that. I might be better qualified for a job that I lose to someone who is a minority. An employer needs to hire qualified people, not just a certain amount of one type or another because some government agency says so.

Some people believe it gives undo special treatment to minorities. And there have been a few incidents of qualified whites being denied entry into college because it had to fill requirements of affirmative action minorities. I like it, too, but can be carried too far sometimes.

affirmitive action started out necessary and with good intentions because there were racists who wouldnt hire blacks, even if they were best for the job. however, as time went on and racism began to lessen, the gvt kept affirmitive action, a BIG mistake. the system became abused, and blacks knew they didnt have to work as hard to get/keep a job because they wre protected by affirmitive action. this also caused more racism, because whites who were better suited for a job would not recieve it because they were white and didnt fit the racial quota. this is racism in itself. i think that in todays world affirmitive action is stupid. it is abused and doesnt help society except SOME black people who take advantage of it and dont need to work as hard as the rest of us. i am not sterotyping, there are some black people who work very hard out there, the rest need to follow there example. affirmitive action is also stupid because it doesnt allow us to build a society in which skin color doesnt matter. instead, it says "well you are white so therefore cannot have this job." i mean, if you were in a burning building and the firefighter who rescued you was a black man who was underqualified yet got the job because of his skin color instead of the white man who scored a 100 on the firefighter test, we'll see how much you like affirmitive action who the underqualified firefighter cant get you out of the builing and you both die.

When I went to college, my parents were struggling to pay for the college education of three children. I was from a low income family, but couldn't get much assistance. I had to work in the evenings and on weekends while in college in order to pay bills. There were lots of minority students at the same school on a free ride because of their skin color. Several of them were from middle income homes and could afford to go to college without government assistance. They skipped classes because they didn't care enough to make good grades (not all of them, of course). It was frustrating knowing that they were able to get government assistance and didn't continue their education any way.
