1980 Chevy C10 pickup with a manual transmission and 6 cylinder engine

Disconnect battery first thing! Jack up truck place on four jack stands front fender has to be four feet in the air to get the gear box out from under.Remove the drive shaft Some fluid will run out replace all lost fluid when done... unbolt the X member unbolt trans mount from x member dis connect the clutch linkage disconnect the transmission rods 3 of them mark locations on levers do not loose the washers and hairpin clips. Now for long extensions universal joint sockets. Unbolt the bell housing bolts and starter motor leave it hanging and just push it foward and metal flywheel cover either "rent a transmission jack" or get a buddy to pull back wiggle and drop the gear box on his hand! take friend to hospital. Clutch cover exposed remove 6 to eight bolts. WARNING ASBESTOS HAZARD! pry back on the clutch cover clutch disk and pieces falls on the ground Poof! dust everywhere. Wearing a dust mask?. Look at the flywheel for cracks and hot spots DO NOT reuse any of the old clutch parts you do not want to experence this anytime soon! Crank shaft bushing bearing, throw out bearing, clutch disk, and pressure plate (clutch cover) All will want to be new. Replace all in reverse order and refill the gear box with the correct fluid. GET'ER'DONE You will not be able to get your hands clean for weeks!

You need to pull the transmission and starter. So get a transmission jack as well. I would seriously consider replacing the clutch and release bearing while you're under there. Get a service manual from Haynes to make sure you're doing the job right. Hope this helps. Don't work under the truck while it's supported by a jack, use ramps and make sure you install a lifting bar on that motor!

disconnect all the linkage. pull the transmission, pull the bell housing, remove clutch pressure plate and fly wheel. replace in reverse order.

if its the flywheel on the crankshaft then you dont
