For those who didn't know how he died, while filming a documentary in the sea he was stung by a stringray right in the heart and died instantly. This guy's passion for animals was just crazy, he loved his family like no tomorrow, I was watching a documentary abut him earlier he's so funny, really gonna miss him!

I feel particularly sad for his widow. They fell in love at first sight when she was visiting his zoo. He didn't just win her heart over, he even infected his love for animals to her. She eventually became a zookeeper as well.

I feel very sad for his young children too....really really sad for his daughter because she takes after him and loves animals too. His departure isn't just a loss for Australia and his loved ones, it's also affected those who love animals as well.

Most of all, I admired the fact that he dared to chase his dreams. He leaves behind a lesson for all of us, do something that you love doing to the end.

As ridiculous as most people think he is, they fail to see how important Steve was to this world. yeah he made mistakes and pulled stupid moves but we all make mistakes, he just so happened to have been in the spotlight. He loved life and wanted to share the wonders of the natural world with everyone. His "stupid moves" drew people in and made them want to save the environment and preserve life. he played an integral part in keeping our natural resources from harms way and made us think twice about hurting another animal. He had such a good cause and I hope people could take this time and appreciate what he's done for everyone. such a shame the world lost someone like him.

I am saddened by this news also. My 6 year old son loves to watch his programs, he has learned so much from Steve. It is not only a great loss to Australia but to everyone across the continent. God Bless Steve!

I had GREAT respect fo Steve.Back in the late 80's,he visited my army unit at Ft Benning Ga,and after the filming,he treated me and a few of my army buds to a few rounds at the NCO club.

Ironically, the producers of the show decided not to air the segment.

May you rest in peace Steve.

Well you should he was actually willing to go out there and put his own life on the line just for our own personal entertainment. Now how many people can you honestly say would be willing to do the same thing? Now that's a true hero in my book.

He was a great outdoors man, and teacher regarding wildlife. His shows were very interesting and you learnt quite allot about the different species of animals, reptiles and bugs. My sympathy to Terri and their children. He will be greatly missed.

I just saw that too. I understand the accident was something of a fluke - being stung directly to the heart.
I feel so sad for his family.

This was the first that I'd heard of this! You're never sure in this forum if it's true or not, so I checked it out....... what a shock! At least he died doing something that he loved doing! I feel so bad for his wife and children.
