Have you noticed that the only std to make it into Soap Opera's is AIDS? It's almost as if, they other STDs aren't hip and trendy enough. They certainly exist, and a few have no cure.
Lets not forget however that everything that happens in any kind of fiction, only happens because some writer wanted it to. I guess that makes soap writers really dull and horror writers sadistic.

You are right, if there has been anyone with an STD (except Mark Fowler) then it hasn't been for many years. If soaps are supposed to be portraying real life then they should be writing STD's in to the script especially as it is a huge problem in life today.

There are always loads of unexplained things in the land of TV, at some point, when its really appropriate, someone will get an STD when it suits the storyline.

I don't watch them. They are junk food for empty minds. And they set lousy standards for kids and adults who may be watching. But you make a good point about depicting uprotected sex. Most unfortunate, but anything to sell soap.

Soap operas are built on drama. Outlandish drama of course. You are underage and have one beer, someone DIES!!! You have sex and are young, BINGO!!! PREGNANT! It's b.s but women and gay men lap it up.
STD's don't make good drama I guess......
