The battery is only used for the clock and to save BIOS settings. If you're not losing your BIOS settings on every restart, or time when the computer's unplugged for awhile, changing the battery will have no effect. Although.. It's usually easy to remove / replace. Usually a part around the edge of the battery pushes in and releases it. Usually a number on it that will identify it.

the battery keep track of time and is used by many games and programs to help time things. when the battery goes bad, you usually get a CMOS failure error.

some battery just pop-out and others are soldered in.

Have you checked your computer for virus or spyware?

Have you run a defrag? Have you got yourself a window registry repair program in case that's the problem?

The problem with computers is that they don't last very long. It could be also that you just don't have enough Ram.

that battery is used for the internal clock, and yes, it can go bad. it won't likely help the computer run better, though.
