There's a lot. The main influx of Irish immigrants to the U.S. occurred in the 1870's-1880's. The tractor had recently been invented and this displaced a lot of Irish farmers (1 tractor can do the job of 20 people, hence "freeing up" 19 people per tractor). Also, the price of beef rose dramaticly in England, so many vegetable farms in Ireland were replaced by ranches -- again uprooting a lot of the people. These two circumstances led to "the great potato famines" which caused many Irish to flee to America looking for better opportunity... So, in the end I can't give you a number, but there's a hell of a lot of Americas with Irish blood.

Oh, and since the Irish are well known for 'f***ing and fighting,' the former would contribute to there being a lot of f***ing Irish around. Tee hee

The wee one is right. But I do understand what you are trying to ask. So many people I come across have some part Irish, including me. I'd say about 25% of all Americans will claim a fraction Irish bloodline.

According to the US Census Bureau, the percent of people reporting Irish ancestry in the 2000 Decennial Census was 10.8% of the total US population. That equals 30,528.492. The complete breakdown of all reported ancestries is contained on the first source page linked below.

The second source page lists lots of specific demographic characteristics for those who reported Irish ancestry if you want lots of details about them.
