Why is it that cigarettes are advertised in magazines and things, yet alcohol is advertised basically every where. Both are addictive drugs, what makes alcohol so much better that it can be advertised anywhere and everywhere, while cigarettes can't. Isn't that sort of a double standard on products? What's your opinion on this?

I think it is a personal choice and the government should stay out of our business.
The only thing that I am in favor of is child proof caps for medicines and toxic cleaners.
I also am in favor of legalizing marijuana,in would get rid of the black market. The government should stop treating its citizens like little children and let people make up their own minds of what products they want to use.
True their are people who abuse mind altering medicines, but when is the last time you heard about someone smoking a joint starting a riot,or going on a start raving rampage?
I am not a regular user of marijuana, and I drink a beer every now and then, but that is my personal choice.
I also smoke cigarettes, not because I want to,because I started at a young age and it developed into a habit.
I am not saying these things are good, but I still think that the government should stay out of our business.

If they want to put warning labels on questionable products that's OK as long as the studies are done accurately.
In Canada their are many medicines that can be bought over the counter, such as codeine Tylenol, they can't be bought here in USA.
That is because Canadians don't treat their citizens like imbeciles.
I am an American and cringe at the way the Government "shields" or distributes information to the general public.
Why is it that some non- smokers die of lung cancer? Christopher Reeves wife was a non smoker and she died of lung cancer..no one has ever given a reason for that .

It's just a matter of politics, people who have high posts are looking after their interests, and they make it sound like smoking is unhealthy and whatever, and disregard alcohol as a threat.
And by the way alcohol can take over ur life and cause u psychological and social problems, but smoking can only affect ur health on the long term,

So they don't put on ads for smoking to seem to be responsible and care about public health, but do advertise alcohol very explicitly knowing that its field is much larger than that of smoking.
