Are there any animals that have a highly developed sense of touch, which they would rely on over and above their other senses?

The Platypus closes its eyes, ears and nostrils when searching for food at the bottom of muddy rivers and relies wholly on touch. Its bill has become so sensitive to touch that it can detect very slight changes in water pressure caused by its prey moving in the water. It can also detect tiny electrical impulses through its bill. It could almost be said, therefore, that the Platypus can "see" by sense of touch...

Yes, star-nosed moles have around 25 "feelers" around their odd shaped noses the feel around underground and look for their fav. food, worms.

also, a cats whiskers are so sensitive to feeling, that a cat can detect slight changes in the wind movement.

Sharks can feel energy in the water. Infact Sharks have many highly developed ways of living.

The Platypus? It has that hugely sensitive nose for shovelling around in river pebbles for critters to snack on.

Here's a quote from a nature website.

"The platypus closes its eyes and ears underwater! How does it manage to find its food in the murky depths below? With an amazing touch-sensitive beak! Platypus bills aren't like bird bills -- they're soft, flexible cartilage -- like the stuff our noses are made of!"

A Yapok- an Australian marsupial. It hunts in water, usually at night. It reaches out with its little paws, feeling for prey. Its the cutest weird animal I've ever seen.

Fish - I go carp fishing.

I have seen underwater footage showing the fish use their fins to feel, mouths to taste and feel if the food item is right

Just look at my pic, I'm holding a 31lb Carp
