It's a quick fix! Ours did the same thing and ended up being a motor cupling needing to be replaced - about $89 repair, much cheaper the buying a new one!!

Does your washing machine still agitate? If it does, I would say it was either the timer or the clutch and not a broken belt. If the belt was broken, it wouldn't do anything but fill with water. The clutch lets the basket go between agitation mode and spin mode and so would the timer. If it is the timer, I would replace it, but if it's the clutch I would buy a new washer as parts and labor would be a lot and hard to replace yourself.

Depending on the age of the machine, it could be cheaper to fix it. When that happened to mine, it turned out to be a belt. It was a quick and "relatively" inexpensive fix. Unless you're a handyman, I would call someone to check it out.

The problem is either the Timer Select, or the Transmission, - Set it on Spin- see if it works.

The chances are the parts and time it takes to get it apart and back together are going to be more work and money than a new one.
I have fixed a couple in my day and have found that its usually best to get a new one.

this depends. if you can take apart some panels to see if you have a belt, and it is in one piece, the odds are that the problem would be in the timer.
