Matthew, the media IS free. Some news companies have a liberal, anti-Bush leaning, while others have a conservative, pro-Bush leaning. All are biased, and their only goals are to sell, sell, sell.
I don't trust any of them completely...and neither should anyone else.
Since when does the government interfere in what newspapers report? If anything, papers like the NY Times have released information that they were not supposed to, and the government was powerless to stop it.

It has become difficult to get any information through the news media outlets lately on what is going on .If you want any information it comes in the form of books written by retired or former administration employee's and military adviser's and leaders .Also you can look to outside sources from European and other news and information outlets .
Depending on what the story is americans are often the last to know and many regard foriegn press as un-reliable.
It is a shame our press has packed it in and become what some will call in the future " private press releases " containing only the information true or false that is approved for release by the managers of the press and the government .

the actually way the Bush administration will be held to blame is that if the yank human beings get some balls and get in the back of their Congressman and Senators and make your voice prevalent that you want them lengthy gone. Poloticians are the employees of the human beings no longer to do what they prefer to do. the ability has to pass again into the palms of the human beings so that you do not have corruption of the likes of the Bush administration. I desire that that all of them to operate examples and be tried for the conflict Criminals that they are. it should be good to be certain each and every of the contributors of the PNAC be before the international courtroom in the Hague and be charged for Crimes adversarial to Humanity.

The press, or "press", has a great deal of responsibility for the disaster that is the Bush administration. Many facts about Mr. Bush were freely available long before the election of 2000, that, if made public, would have assured that the public would have not voted for him. These facts are contained in the book "Shrub" by Molly Ivins, and briefly, they have to do with his unbroken string of failed business ventures, his incompetence, his lying. I feel quite certain that if these facts had been made public, he would have never even have gotten the Republican nomination. In addition, Mr. Bush's activities during the Vietnam War really should have been examined--what exactly was he doing flying from Colombia to the US during that era? The allegations that he used cocaine should have been explored because abuse of that drug leads to mental deterioration and aggressiveness, two traits that the nation's foreign policy has shown since he took office.
The night of the 2000 debates with Mr. Gore, the terrible environmental state in which Mr. Bush left Texas was subject to debate. And as you will see from reading "Shrub" that was to give Texas the highest rate of cancer and birth defects in North America as a result of Mr. Bush's voluntary environmental regulations. What did the "press" concentrate on that night? It endlessly reported, over and over, that Mr. Gore signed. Wow. So the "press" needs to be reformed. Broadcasting licenses need to be jerked for starts. The "press" is second only to the supreme corrupt court in responsibility for the Bush disaster.

Hands down, farkas419 has the definitive answer on this question. Here are some examples of the leanings of our media sources. The NY Times leans to the left, while the Wall Street Journal leans to the right. The Washington Post leans to the left, while The Washington Times leans to the right. CNN obviously leans to the left, while FOX obviously leans to the right. To get both sides of the story, you have to examine all of these media sources.

He who controls the media controls the masses. Our "Free Press" is anything but - journalistic integrity is out the window, together with freedom of speech, if you have anything to lose. Look at the people who've lost their jobs because they reported something "unpopular" to this administration, or gone to jail to protect what they always (and should still have!) their right to protect - their sources. They are supposed to be the watchdogs that report to us minions on what's really going on in the big whig world....
An interesting movie to watch on this subject is the coup in 1989 on Venezuelan pres Hugo Chavez, called "The Revolution Will Not be Televised". Do get your hands on it & see how it applies to today's mess in the US. I'll say it again: He who controls the media controls the masses. Our media is controlled by this administration, and the general public is being brainwashed & manipulated.

Money, money,money...Now that most of the press corps(e) are owned by a few rich companies, the only place to find out what's really going on is to listen to those lone voices in the wild...

No one is forcing you to read or watch the news.
If enough people stop buying their fluff, it'll go away.
Supply and demand dictates content.
If you want to know what happened, read the headlines.
If you want spin, read the content.
