It is most likely air in your cold water pipes. It does no harm, except to drive you crazy. You could call a plumber and they can you get rid of it.

I have heard that water hammer can be cured by turning on all of your taps at the same time and flushing all toilets at the same time. This forces the air out of the pipes...you might have to do this more than once...and make sure to do it for long enough and even turn on the hot taps while trying to fix this....It can get worse if you ignore it.

It sounds like a problem with you water pressure.

Turn your tap on full, and then turn it off slowly to stop the clanging.

This is a simple fix, All that's wrong is the washer on the bottom of the stem, or handle. Pop off the lil C or H and take out the screw. The handle will come off. Turn water off under sink. Using a crescent wrench or channel lock, Loosen the stem and remove. You will see a flat washer on the bottom. Check the screw and check the washer. Replace or tighten as needed

are the water board working on the pipes in the area this is one of the ways air gets into the pipes, you can also get a pressure reducing valve fitted where the mains comes into your house which will lower the pressure and generally stops the problem

u have debris inside the cold vavle that makes the noise.. turning on the hot side bypasses the water thus causing the noise to stop.... u can take the vavle apart and remove the debris or replace the faucet

it sounds like water hammer , you need to get someone to try and put a bracket on where it is ocurring

a loose 'o' ring washer, tighten it.
