This question is suppose to be for my Social Studies Project and i can't find it.

probably, because through telegraph one could send instant messages at distant places where telephone facilities were not available. or because messages were the texts (in writing) so might be the proof of genuinity

To let people quickly send short messages to remote places (e.g. from one town to another). It was much more efficient than post.

Because they didn't have cell phones.
