I am just curious. When a bunch of fat blokes run into each other with an oblong object tucked in their elbow,me thinks it is funny to classify that as football. It is more of bullfight.Let them give it another game.Let them come to England and see the real football and enjoy the beauty of the game.

I agree. I am an American Arsenal footy fan. I dont understand why it is called 'football.' Only the kickers and punters kick the ball. Correct me if Im wrong, but last time I checked, the real sport was named football because you use your FEET to kick the BALL!!! The worst part is when they take minutes to get ready for a play, with their timeouts and call reviewing and two minute warnings, then when they do the play, one guy runs down the middle and all of the players just pile up on top of each other and the runner just gains 1 yard, then you have to wait another 5 minutes for the next play. At least it seems that way.
To me American 'football' players are just a bunch of Rugby players that do not have the courage to get hit without a helmet and tons of padding. It is a shame that the American media like ESPN, would rather show golf, blackjack, women's college volleyball, 10 year old kids playing baseball, horseracing, cars going in circles 200-500 times, preseason american football, etc, etc... over EPL matches, or even matches from other top countries like Spain, Italy and Germany. It is a shame that I have to pay extra money to get the 'Soccer' channel and watch my beloved gunners play. It pisses me off so much.

We Yanks think so. The reason why we call your football "soccer" is that it was originally known as "association football" in this country. I guess our forebears shortened it to "soccer" because we like our own version of "football" more. American-style football is one of the most popular attractions in this country while world-style football is basically a minor sport, like indoor la crosse.
As time passes, all of that may change - soccer is hugely popular as a participation sport among kids, and Major League Soccer has a small but devoted following.
As far as football protective equipment is concerned, it is pretty much a necessity - many current NFL and college teams are built around speed.

I'm American and i totally agree. my grandmother is obsessed with "football" i dunno y, it's so dull, they spend most of their time standing around waiting for people to line up, y can't they just play the game like regular sports. I despise the violence of it (not that real football isn't sometimes violent, but at least the point of the game is not to try to kill your opponent!). It drives me mad when there are 4 different American football games on TV and in 400 channels i can't find one decent premiere match, i can't wait to move out of here!!

Ha ha...
Of course not.

In the immortal words of Giles (Anthony Stewart Head):
"I just think it's rather odd that a nation that prides itself on its virility should feel compelled to strap on forty pounds of protective gear just in order to play rugby."

Priceless... And so true!
