He got stung by a Stingray - and it punctured his heart. Apparently when they took him out of the water the medical team tried torevive him but he was already dead.
Make you wonder how close he was swimming to the Stingray - As the stingray only attack when they feel threatened..Knowing Steve he was probably right up near the stingray..

Steve Erwin was filming a documentary underwater off the coast of Australia when, in a freak accident, a Sting Ray stabbed him in the heart with its barb. He died immediately. Very tragic.

It was on the Great Barrier Reef of Queensland Australia. The Stingray's barb was the length of your forearm (about 300mm/1 foot long) and pierced his heart as it hit him in the chest. He died quickly

Yes he did die he died of a stingray bite to the heart!!
He died today around lunch time on the great barrier reef.

Yep a ray pierced his heart. at least he went out doing the thing he loved, not much of a consolation for his wife and kids tho, or it may be some consolation to them.

I just heard that not 5 minutes ago. A stingray stung him and it pierced his heart...what a tragedy. He was a crazy bugger and he died doing what he loved. Very sad.
