The Protection bar is left over from SpyQuake which is a virus left by a Trojan in your computer. I had it. SpyQuake tries to get you to go to their website and pay for removal of fake viruses. But SpyQuake is the actual virus.

Use your Spyware and Antivirus to delete the virus and Trojan. Free AdAware from Lavasoft, or SpyBot Search and Destroy will work too. The protection bar will remain and cannot be removed through normal means. It is in your Windows registry.

The Uninstall icons in your Contol Panel/Uninstall Programs feature are fake. They will not work.

Go to http://www.download.com/HijackThis/3000-8022_4-10379544.html?tag=lst-0-1 and get the free copy of Hijackthis. Run it and carefully scroll down the results until you find the line that contains the word, "IntCodec" and/or "Protection Bar".
When I found it, it was in the series of "line #04" on my computer.
Use Hijackthis to delete it. Close your browser and reboot your computer. The Protection Bar will be gone.

Do not delete any other lines using Hijackthis unless you know what you are doing. Those are registry entries and you need them. If you need help, contact me. I will be on Yahoo Messenger for a few hours, but invisible. "tao.barbie"

Should just be able to rightclick it and close it from there or just use taskmanager to kill the process. You should also be able to disable the program using MSconfig.

Start- Run- Msconfig
