it's one of kubrick's favorite, as is quoted. i saw it recently on video, and liked it for its direction, basically.
with marital fidelity as its theme, it unfolds the bizarre in human nature. the masked ball, the sexual orgies, that shop owner, who uses his own daughter for flesh trade, tom cruise's visualisations of his wife having violent sex with the other man, every thing is awesome !
but it's also one of kubrick's complex movies. a clockwork orange, that way, could be enjoyed, for the entire transformation process which fails eventually, and there is that central character of a spoilt youth. but here, there are so many characters, with different shades, you have to really studyit tounderstand well.
i suggest, you may discuss this movie on imdb's message boards, rather than getting some senseless, monosyllabilic answers on this yahoo answers, as they seem to even haven't heard of kubrick, for that matter !
i found one answer, just d, what does it mean ? and imagine these answerers reaching 4 and 5 levels !

I liked it quite a bit. Kubrick generally worked in accepted film genres...and then stood them on their ear. In "The Shining," for example, he took the conventional horror genre and made it into a claustrophobic family-in-criris drama.
"Eyes Wide Shut" revisits issues of trust among families, but also sprinkles in our modern day paranoia over the intrusion of technology into our lives. The old "who's watching me?" theme.
Kubrick was nothing if not audacious, and there are several scenes in "Eyes Wide Shut" that I just can't imagine having been filmed by any other director. The long conversation between Cruise and Kidman while they're smoking a joint, for example. Amazing.

Not even close to be worthy of the class that Kubrick films are accustomed. While it is a fair film, It lacks suspense. I could criticize it all day, but I'd rather concentrate on his finer accomplishments; Paths of Glory, Lolita, Dr. Strangelove, And of course, my personal favorite...well, the avatar says it all...nuff said!

It was disturbing and thought provoking, like most Stanley Kubrick films. As you like this one, if you have never seen it before, I suggest your rent one of his first works "A Clockwork Orange".

it sucked and should never have seen the light of day...can't believe kubrick would've wanted it released in that version...think it was a bit undercooked, if ya know what i mean~

listed decrease than are 2 cheers for A Clockwork Orange! (And one for complete metallic Jacket, and The Shining.) yet no...I observed Eyes extensive close as one among his "lesser" movies. not that any of his have been ever undesirable.
