Here's the problem with "mercy killing": The Devil is in the details.

There are so many cases where the person wishing to die

- is depressed

- doesn't want to spend the money required for treatment

- doesn't want to be a "burden" on family

Sometimes, for the wrong reasons, family members encourage the stricken person to seek death:

- it may be a burden on them to care for or visit the sick

- they may not want to spend the money, fearing that it might be
wasted and that the sick person will just die anyway

- they may have other pecuniary motives, such as the life
insurance or a Will

- remember the Terry Schiavo case? The next of kin may have
a conflict of interest. If Schiavo's wife were dead, he could
remarry as a widower.

Quite apart from religious beliefs, there are strong reasons to tread carefully in the issue of mercy killing.

a mercy kill is just that, you put whatever it is that is "suffering", suffering, that's the key word...would you want you loved one to suffer and be in excrusiating pain? no.
