In the USA it is 1000 million or 1,000,000,000
in the uk a billion was a million million or 1,000,000,000,000
however many people in the UK now use the US definition but sometimes it is ambiguous.

1000 duhh ,, obviously you havent got that far in math yet and its written billion and million,, 1,000,000 (million) x 1,000= 1,000,000,000 rule for zeros,, when multiplying numbers take whole numbers and multiply them, then total up zeros 1x1= 1 1,000 (3 0s) 1,000,000 ( 1million 6 0s) 6+3=9 0s thus the answers is 1 and 9 0s 1,000,000,000( 1 billion)

The imperial is 1million million, but those pesky Yanks decided it would only be 1000 million and that seems to have become the standard

Historically, there are two different kinds of billions. There is an American billion which is : 1,000,000,000 (1,000 million)
and a British billion which is 1,000,000,000,000 (one thousand times the size of an American billion). Almost always these days when you hear the word `billion' used on the TV or the radio, or read it in a newspaper, it will refer to an American billion.
