there are many factors:
1. Parents aren't encouraging kids to run around outside as much as they used to, instead, letting the kids play video games all day long. I don't have a problem with video games, within reason, but dang, put a limit on it. Too much of a cool thing isn't always good.
2. Soda pop. I, myself, grew up drinking pepsi... we're the Pepsi generation. It's so much cheaper to buy than milk or orange juice. Water is a good thing to push with kids, and it's free, but we, myself included, want something with taste to it. It's a hard habit to break.
3. Convenience foods are being overly used. I did a report on this for one of my dental classes. McDonalds and other restaurants are ok, once in awhile, but the added sodium, calories and fats aren't good for one's body if it's bombarded on an almost daily basis. Also, individually wrapped lunch goodies are full of preservatives and fat that are ok on occasion but when they are consumed a lot, it can pile on the pounds.
What kids need to do is be more active, physically, and eat fresh fruits and veggies more than stuff that is loaded with sugars and fats. Of course, this is easier said than done. I have two small children of my own and it's hard enough to monitor what I put in my mouth let alone a 5 and 6 year old.

Four entities are responsible. Industrial farmers who are ruining the earth with pesticides, causing food to lack the nutrients from the soil. The second is the FDA for allowing big companies to load are food with artificial everything, adding food additives that make us fat. Technology is responsible: kids are playing video games of walking dogs instead of walking their own. Society for being so materialist that children are now victims of an average of 10 hours a day of being stationary and not exercising or playing.

I blame the parents. I do not believe in making a child eat their entire plateful of food when they are eating. I give my little girl small portions of what we are eating and if she gets full she knows that she can quit eating. But if she wants more after she has finished she can have it. Also parents should limit how much TV their kids are watching and games they are playing. Kids now a days don't even know how to skip or hula hoop. How sad is that?

Kids have too much structured time and not enough time to play. Parents are too busy to help keep kids active. Comuters, tv, etc. But, parents also need to instill self-confidence in their kids and not harp on their weight either. My parents fed me all the right foods, little or no junk food, limited television time, gave me chores, etc. But in the end, they focused their attentions on my weight in a negative way ("you'll never be able to do this or that") and as a result I grew up believing I didn't deserve things. Lack of self-confidence is the ultimate problem.

Society has gone to the bigger and better theory. Supersized meals at fast food restaurants, first the Big Gulp and now there's the Super Big Gulp etc.Lack of exercise because they are watching TV or on the computer or playing video games. We drive everywhere so no more bicycle riding or walking to burn the extra (and usually empty) calories. Bottom line parents!

In most cases, the parents. As a parent, it is my responsibility to teach this child to care for herself that includes her eating habits. If she sees me eating junk and stuffing myself at every meal she will think that is how it should be and develop that habit as well no matter what i give her and by the time she is old enough to understand it will be a habit and the damage will have already begun.
Parents should first treat their bodies the way they want their children's bodies to be treated and second make deliberate healthy choices for their kids making sure to teach them moderation and self control

partly the parents they should have routine of eating fruit with each meal from a baby and also the people who introduce chocolates and lollies in commercials best bet the kids at school.
parents play a big part in what there kids eat

nobody.obese people do not always eat a lot, sometimes there may be some sorts of problems regard the child's intestines, which makes it harder to be absorbed, thus turning into fats, which leads to obesity

Parents who have poor parenting skills,and let their kids eat anything and everything when they want,and letting them sit in front of a television playing video games all day.
