Is there a difference between an FM Transmitter and an FM Modulator? I am trying to find a good product to allow the use of my MP3 player in my vehicle. I read a review that said there was a difference. What is the best way to use the MP3 player in the car and get the best sound quality?

Same thing, but if you want quality sound do not use an FM Modulator!

See if your car stereo has auxiliary inputs. You can use a little "jumper cable" to connect your MP3 player's headphone outputs to car stereo aux inputs. If you have a separate CD changer in your car and no aux inputs, then a car stereo tech may be able to tap into the audio cables to create switchable aux inputs for your MP3 player.

Direct connection is MUCH better than FM.

They are both the same thing. They take an audio signal and put it on the FM band. The main difference in in the quality and the ability of the modulator to change frequencies.

No matter how good your recording is it will be limited to the quality of FM if you use a modulator/transmitter

to modulate is to change. in this case the audio from your mp3/ipod is changed (modulated) into a signal that the radio tuner can receive and decode in the same way as if it were receiving FM radio signal. in most cases this would involve inserting the modulator in the cable running from the antenna to the back of the deck which creates a solid link into your audio system

Geesh I thought they were the same thing anyways when the audio comes into the FM Transmitter, it varies the frequency-not the amplitude.
