It might be interesting to note that there were Greek philosophers back in their day that believed it prior to Darwin. Epicurus is the most famous but also Anaximander. There was an Indian Philosopher named Patanjali (I may have misspelled) also.. Then you probably know Alfred Russel Wallace and Gregor Mendel. I would go back to those Greek guys...
