Yes. Let's just say that the majority of footballers are not the brightest of sparks and certainly wouldn't understand the legalities of contracts and all the small print - contracts for top players are complex documents. Agents are the specialists who know the legalities of contracts and how to get their clients the best deal. But many agents are pretty unscrupulous and many are more interested in getting their fat fees than the best interests of their players. But, YES, agents are grossly overpaid for what they do which is why many clubs insist that it is now the player who pays their agent which simply means players demand a higher signing-on fee. The authorities need to move to cap agents fees and make the whole transfer process more transparent. Look how many times Anelka has moved clubs and his agent is his brother - nice little family earner! (And personally I don't believe any footballer is worth the salaries top players get now - like the housing market the inflationary bubble will burst one day)
