What are the combination of red led lights on the 360 circle? There have been many overheating problems, make sure the console and the power pack are in a good position for decent airflow. This happened to mine, if that doesnt work contact microsoft about the issue.

Yes. If the green light around the "on" button goes red it is an internal error meaning the system crashes! Please amend your question and let me know where you got it from! I'll tell you what to do from there if i can!

Some stores such as Dixon's group (Dixon's, Curry's, PC world) have the item listed as a code 5, meaning they will swap it over without the need for a repair. If you ask them in advance they will also allow you to keep the hard drive and not get another one when you swap it. therefor keeping your saved games

If it is simply overheating you could get a Nyko Intercooler (£16 from amazon). but you should not have to do this for a new machine, contact microsoft, they will send you a box to return your console in and will send you a new one
