1965 Chevelle Z16. First Chevelle with a factory big block. Only 201 made and they were not well know in their day.
Pontiac 2+2 with 421 and tri-power. Based on a Catalina and it was easy to miss the extra trim until all you saw were tail lights.
1962 Chevrolet Biscayne with a 409 cubic inch engine and 409 horsepower. Bottom of the line Chevrolet with the top of the line engine.

My answer would be the 62-64 super stock Dodges and Plymouth's. Their max wedge engines could even be ordered in a station wagon body. It is the car that the little old lady from Pasadena drove in the famous Jan and Dean song of the early 60's. They are also still record holders in their class in NHRA stock class racing.

My favorite is the late '80s and early '90s Chrysler minivans that came with the 2.5 Turbo. They're not all that fast in stock trim, but it's not hard to make one run 13's with some cheap mods. For shear unlikeliness, they're hard to beat.
