Yes it is so terrible. I bought my son a Wiggles DVD the day before yesterday and its the Steve Irwin Safari one...so wierd that the next day he is dead. Not many people in this world that had his genuine love for life. What a great guy. All my love to his wife, children, family and friends. I hope the Australian Zoo will be carrying on his good work xx

I am shocked and saddened, not only by Steve's death but by the number of offensive and malicious posts about what has happened. My deepest sympathy to his family.

It's always sad when someone dies so young. I often wondered how far he took the risks of handling dangerous animals.
Although he sometimes seemed to be on the edge of distressing animals, I think that his intent was to show the power and majesty of life's greatest creations.
His enthusiasm for what he did was infectious. I can only thank him for showing a new generation of people that wildlife is worth fighting for, perhaps even to die for.
My sympathy to his family. I will miss him.

It is a shame. The world has lost a compassionate animal lover and environmentalist. He will be greatly missed by his many fans around the world.
He died doing what he loved which as bad as it sounds, is a good way to go.
I feel sorry for his two young children, they'll grow up not knowing their daddy.
Rest in Peace Steve.

Yes it hit me hard, afterwards it felt a bit like when I heard about Diana dying, even though hers was unexpected, and I've always said that Steve Irwin would get killed one day. I didn't expect him to die from a Stingray though, I would have been less shocked to hear that he'd die from a croc attack.

I am very shocked and sad to hear the terrible news. He truly was an amazing person and very gifted. He taught us a lot about animals through his work and was a great advocate for animals. My thoughts are with his family right now.

I am sooooo shocked. I thought as crazy as he was he'd die of old age. Cause some of the stuff he dealt with really scared me. he will be missed by many. Sympathies to his family. I really liked him.

Gutted! I was always fascinated by his larger-than-life personality, a real in-your-face profile you can't ignore. I guess it was inevitable that something would happen to him, it was just a case of where and when. Hugely sad for his wife and children. RIP Steve and may Australia Zoo continue without him.
