Some are bug generally not! Steve Irwin was VERY unlucky as that particular ray is ONLY fatal if you are stung near the heart- he got hit in the chest. They normally just hurt like hell.

yes they can be the tail has spines that are poison. Thats what killed Steve Irwin. Read yahoo news page.
