Intel Pentium D is better because it's a Dual-Core. If two programmes do their job in 1 minute on Intel Pentium 4, Dual-Core will finish it in 40 seconds or less.
Hope this helps.

It is highly dependent on how you plan to use it.
If you're using it for a program that is already multi core optimized, you'll get faster with a Pentium D. But if you're not using a multi core optimized program, Pentium D would be noticeably slower than 4.
If you're a multi tasking user (you browse internet while opening your word processor, or you play games while chatting in the background), you'll see that Pentium D excels from Pentium 4, even though you're not using a multi core optimized application. I'm sure most if not all computer users nowadays do multitasking to some degree.
So _generally_ Pentium D (or any dual core CPU) is better than a Pentium D. Although some certain cases might see that 4 could be faster than D.

pentium 4.. Pentium D takes so much power and gets hot faster.. It is dual core.. fine.. but its like taking 2 watered down(i mean VERY watered down) pentium 4's and sticking em together.. its a piece of crap.. i would take P4 over PD any day... try AMd.. Or wait for core 2 duo to come out in most of the systems.. it is supposedly the best processors in the world

Core 2 Duo will be better.
According to your question you should go for 3.06.Its even faster but costly too.

the pentium d processor that you speak of only has an fsb of 533 while the pentium 4 has an fsb of 800, pentium d is better then pentium 4, but not that particular pentium d that you speak of as its the lower model of pentium d
