If you have a 28-day cycle, ovulation (egg released by ovary) happens on the 14th day.

Sperm can live for a few days, and the egg can live about 1-2 days so normally it is considered that you are fertile from about 5 days before ovulation, to about 2 days after. Which translates into a fertility period of between the 9th and the 16th day, if you have a regular, 28-day cycle.

As for breastfeeding, the legend apparently continues to go on that while breastfeeding, and if a woman has not seen her period return, she cannot become pregnant again. This is plainly WRONG and the bad surprise has happened to many couples, I'm calling it a bad surprise because having babies just 11 or 12 months apart can be stressful, and does not leave the mother's body enough time to recover.

So even if you're breastfeeding, and have not seen your period return, if you do not want to become pregnant again then use the pill or condoms!

If you are on a 28 day cycle, then your best chances of falling pregnant and your most furtile days are days 11/12/13/14/15. You need to calculate the days starting from the first day of your last period.

Since you are breast feeding, you have an option to be on the mini pill, it is a very low dose pill which I took when I was breastfeeding to avoid pregnancy. If this is not an option, you need to use backup contraception as you are quite furtile when you are breastfeeding. For many women, becoming pregnant while breastfeeding can come as a surprise. They assume a pregnancy is unlikely or even impossible while breastfeeding a child. Unfortunately that's wrong.

Here are some links that may be more helful for you to see which days to avoid sex, but it's better to use a backup at all times..Also a link about pregnancy and breastfeeding.

This is your answer and link:

The female fertility period occurs once during the monthly menstrual cycle. The ovum (egg) matures in approximately the middle of the cycle, about 14 days prior to the onset of menstruation. The fertility period peaks for 2 to 3 days with an average total duration of 4 to 6 days, though this can vary depending on many biological and environmental factors. Calculation of this fertile period using non-clinical or traditional methods can be quite inaccurate, especially in the case of women with irregular cycles.

And here is a hint: if you want to know which is the ovulation day, you have to take your basal temperature; if is higher than 37 dgr. C that day is your ovulation day.

Here I answer you about brestfeeding and getting pregnant:

Prolactin Changes During Pregnancy
When you are pregnant, prolactin changes are completely normal. In fact, your prolactin must increase in order to encourage the production of milk in your mammary glands. During pregnancy your hormones are all over the place. In particular, your estrogen levels begin to rise, and this is what stimulates the increase in your prolactin levels. After birth, as your baby breastfeeds, nipple stimulation will trigger a further increase in prolactin. Prolactin is what allows you to continue breastfeeding for an extended period of time.

Prolactin and Infertility
Prolactin doesn't just cause your body to increase milk production - it also affects your ovulation and menstrual cycles. This is why it is nearly impossible to become pregnant when you are breastfeeding. (In fact, prolactin is 90% effective against pregnancy in the first months after birth).

I'll warn you... Even though they say that breastfeeding can be an effective method of birth control for up to six months, both my mother and I breastfed and both of us became fertile within 3 months after birth. Don't count on breastfeeding as a form of contraception. However, many women do not ovulate (three days prior and a day after ovulation are the fertile period) for about 6 months after birth if they are exclusively breastfeeding, and even then many times their monthly cycle is unpredictable.

During a woman's menstrual cycle, days between 7th day (from start of menstruation) to 23rd day are considered a favourable for conception. This is called fertility period. Intercourse between 10th to 17th day of menstruation will likely result in conception. During breast feeding period, a woman is unlikely to conceive.

Fertility period is 3days prior and 3 days after ovulation(including day of ovulation)

First of all ... if cycles are regular then to POPULAR MISBELEIF...ovulation is not at 14th day of cycle(day one is the day on onset of menses)....IT IS 14 DAYS "PRIOR" TO ONSET OF MENSES.

so if cycle are 30 days regular then ovulation day is (30-14)=16th day of cycle; if cycle are 34 days regular then day of Ovulation is (34-14)=20th day of cycle.. if cycle are 28 days then (28-14)..14th day is ovulation day... if cycles of 23 day then (23-14)=9th day is day of ovulation.

If Cycle are IRREGULAR...No use of this method!!!

During Breast Feeding ovlation can occur PRIOR TO Restoration of menses and PREGNANCY can occur thus...

But if there are regular menses established while breast feeding...then Fertility period calculation can help.

The Word "Regularity of Menses" is most important
