The A's are hot right now. There is no way the Angels and the Rangers can catch up. They'll definately clinch the AL West. The playoffs will be tough this year. I think they'll at least make it to the ALCS.

The A's are my team and you have to look at history. They will have the best chance if they do not play Minnesota. Minnesota for some reason finds a way to beat the A's and other teams in the first round of the playoffs. I would actually prefer from them to play the Yankees. The Yanks have some issues even though A-Rod appears to be on a tear. The Big Unit and their pitching is their weak spot. The A's have a great pitching staff-second in the AL and their hitting is improving with the health of Swisher. They also have a great defense! Look for them to beat the Yankees and loose to the White Sox in the ALC. Jermaine Dye and Company is the team to beat this year.

If they play the Yankees in the first round, they will very likely lose that series. If the season ended today, the wild card team (Chicago or Minnesota), would play the division winner with the best record (Detroit). That would mean the A's would open with the Yanks. But if the Tigers continue sliding and the Yankees end up with the best record in the AL, the A's would not open with the Yankees. If the opening series is with Detroit, the A's could conceivably win that series since it would mean the Tigers current slide continued and by the end of the year the Yankees had the best record. I think best case for Oakland would be winning first round if they don't meet NY.

They will definitely make the playoffs this year. How far they will go is anyone's guess. My prediction would be for them to go as far as the AL Championship Series, and then have a 50/50 chance to make the World Series. Their 2006 team is chock full of talent and there's a chance they will go far.

It really depends on who their first round opponent is. I think if it's the Yankees, Oakland will be dismissed quickly. If they happen to draw Detroit, Chicago, Minnesota, etc., they have a good chance of playing in the ALCS (only to then be dismissed by the Yankees).

perdido is wrong. Teams from the same division cannot play against each other in the first round of playoffs.
Yankees will end up with best record and will play WSox. Detroit will play your A's. I believe Yanks will beat A's in ALCS and, of course, win the WS against whatever the NL can muster up.

even as hot as they are, they'll have a hard time beating any of the other 3 teams that'll make it in the AL. yankees, white sox, tigers and twins are too good.
