Jesus called upon the Temple to be changed. This was causing disruption in an area of the empire that was already in foment. John the Baptist played with more fire than water. Among Jesus 's disciples were Simon the Zealot, zealots being a organization that called for the ouster of the Romans by any means and carried out guerrilla attacks on the Romans. Judas Iscariot's last name indicates that he was a member if the iscarii, who were known to cut the throats of those they decided had collaborated with the Romans. Jesus's calls to cleanse the Temple( and all it's works) was noticed by the Romans because they used the Temple as a proxy government to keep the people quiet. The Roman rule was simple pay your taxes and stay quiet or we crucify you. Get you friends together and revolt and we send in the Legions and kill everyone. That is why one of the arguments used for handing over or putting the frame on Jesus for the Romans. Better one man die than a people. Didn't work. 70 A.D. there was a general revolt and the Jewish people were killed or dispersed. The temple was destroyed. The Romans knew that there was always someone to occupy empty land and if you leave the bodies of the previous occupants hanging around the new ones will be quiet and peace will prevail. Was Jesus guilty? Well, the Japanese say that it is the raised nail that meets the hammer. No matter what you believe, he met the hammer.

Although the gospels claim that Jesus was accused of blasphemy, it appears that some secular historians suspect this is erroneous. Instead, it seems that he was probably accused of sedition (incitement of discontent or rebellion against a government).

There is a compelling argument that yes, Jesus was guilty of sedition. Here is a good reference article:

Jesus was sentenced to die by the people who welcomed him with palms beforehand. He was guilty because Pilate and the Romans have no choice but to follow the people.
