Generally, the left side indicates dominant, active, or top and the right side indicates passive, receptive, or bottom.

Most often you'll see both nipples pierced as opposed to just one.

my ex has a ring in his left nipple and he is not a flamer. nobody would know he was gay unless they were told. i have never been with a guy with both or only a right piercing. i also don't have nipple piercings. i hear they are the most painful.

That's funny. I have my left pierced and I am definitely a bottom. Maybe I'm a power bottom? Ha ha.

dougeebear is correct, the left side is "dominate/top", the right side is "submissive/bottom", but it's a distinction that's becoming blurred.
