No but it is technically the same company. Maestro is the international debit card network. It will work at all place that take Maestro not MasterCard. I have done research on this subject. Yes you can use your card on the Internet but your bank must support this. Only a few countries allow this. Unfortunately the US does not allow this yet but Maestro cards can be used at some merchants in person with a pin by choosing the debit button. If you are in the US. You can get a debit card with a MasterCard symbol and use it on the web and it can be used at places in person that take either Maestro and/or MasterCard. Just a tip because of the way some merchants do their transactions on the Internet and off. I would keep at least double the purchase plus $5.00 in your account.
Some hotels, restaurants and car rental put bigger holds on your card. I would use a credit card in this case.
If you get a US debit card with either a Visa or MasterCard symbol on it. It could have any of these networks listed on the back of your card Star, Nyce, Visa Electron, Visa Delta, Visa Plus, Cirrus, Maestro, and your local bank network.
Maestro and Visa Plus international network are used as the last resort when doing a debt (pin) purchase in the US and for compatibility with foreign issued cards.

Maestro is an international debit card service; a joint venture by MasterCard and Europay International. Maestro cards are obtained from associate banks and linked to the cardholder's current account. The cardholder presents the card at the Point of sale (POS) and this is swiped through the terminal by the assistant or the customer or inserted into a PINpad. The payment is authorised by the card issuer to ensure that the cardholder has sufficient funds in their account to make the purchase and the cardholder confirms the payment by either signing the sales receipt or enters their 4 to 6-digit PIN.

I am sorry, but u can't use ur Maestro instead of Master Card. If u want to book sth or buy sth and this internet shop allowes u to use only Master Card, than find another one, where u can buy goods with ur Card.
