Yes there are many Scots in parliment but that is because it is the UK Parliment and Scotland is still part of the UK.

Its this narrow-mindedness that makes me want Scotland to seperate.

The amount of whinging English going on about all the Scots in the parliment. Are they that stupid they don't realise it is irrelevent where in the UK they are from?

How long was Scotland run by the English? There is a reason theTory's don't have a seat in Scotland!

*rant over*

Yes Scotland has its own Parliment but the strings are still ery much pulled from Westminster. England doesn't have its own Parliment or Assembly and maybe should look into one? The UK Parliment is for the whole of the UK, not England!

Blair wasn't just educated in Edinburgh, he was born there. (Edinbrugh is the capital of Scotland for those who don't know).

First - I don't even think the bulk of the people on this site even recognize that the UK is not just Great Britain. I think, if asked, the majority of people would say Catherine Zeta Jones isn't from the UK because she's Welsh. And Sean Connery? Well, he doesn't look anything like Prince Charles! So I'm one Yankee that appreciates your "rant" as you call it, so I'll trade you a week here (in California) for a week where you live so I can make an educated remark!

The English are a good people, a bit arrogant and sometimes a little selfish. The Scots are also a good people. We have now managed to live together for over 200 years without going to war or resorting to terrorism. But the relationship is no longer working. The Scots have got their own parliament that looks after a few issues but not the important ones. I now think they want control of all issues. Similarly, the English are getting a little paranoid about so many Scots holding senior positions in Government. They must get the feeling that the so called Scottish mafia is running the place.
Scotland had been ruled by the the majority, the English, during most of the time the Union has been in existence. I feel as if the English who now complain about a few Scots having senior positions are going over the top.
Scotland do receive more money per head than the rest of the UK but Scotland contributes more per head. Who ever said it had to be equal?
One final point, I cannot see how Tony Blair can be considered Scotland. We have enough idiots without claiming responsibility for Tony.

Do they? I've never heard anyone moan about this. I have been to Scotland a few times though and heard lots of Scottish people complaining that they are being run by the English. If there's a prejudice, I think it's the Scots over the English, rather than vice versa. I know that the English have treated the Scots appallingly in the past, but it really was a very long time ago.

The final time I looked, neither David Cameron or Menzies Campbell have been working the country. they're the leaders of the two significant opposition events in Parliament. Sir Liam Donaldson is the supervisor scientific Officer for England, that infrequently skill he's working the country. honest adequate, the best Minister is Scottish, yet do you be responsive to what share contributors of his government are Scottish? ok, then i'm going to assist you be responsive to. different than for the PM, purely 3 cupboard post out of 27 are held via Scots. Alistair Darling (Chancellor of the Exchequer), Des Browne (Secretary of State for Defence) and Douglas Alexander (Secretary of State for international progression). which skill 24 contributors of the government at the instant are not Scottish. So the respond isn't any, the united kingdom isn't being run via Scots, on account that purely 4 contributors of the united kingdom government which involves 28 each and every person is Scottish.

I think its in part a response to the formation of the Scots Parliament and Welsh Assembly. Some people in England feel that it is unreasonable for Scots MP's to vote on purely English matters. Yes there is a lot of justification over the last Conservative government (but at that time there was no separate representation in Scotland ther is now.)

Many of the senior Cabinet posts are held by Scots (Blair, Brown to name just 2), there is significnat over representation of Scots in the senior echelons of Labour - but thats not an issue in my view they are after all MP's. I think it becoems an issue when Labour whip their scots MP's to vote down legislation which would treat England in the same manner as the Scots. I think it difficutl to sustain when for example the transport sec. approves a light rail scheme for Edinburgh but stops other schemes in Northern England.

Some people in England seem to be no longer willing to tolerate what they see as discrimination in favour of Scotland (the Barnet Formula), and over representation in the UK parliament.

Examples of this include health care, university fees, light rail transport systems.

I think the creation of the MSP's & AM's has created the fission that will eventually lead to the dissolution of the UK.

Labour seems unwilling or unable to to grant the same parliamentary rights to England that it has to Wales, Northern Ireland & Scotland, however I suspect that as England doesn't seem to be inclined to vote the "right" way (IE Labour) then its highly unlikely that an English parliament will be created

You probably already know that many English consider Scots to be in a perpetual state of babyish complaining. Living in England, I personally never hear anyone complaining about the government being run by Scots, even though a huge proportion of the cabinet is Scottish (even Tony Blair considers himself a Scot, because he was educated there). They complain about them being liars, run by spin, incompetent, wasteful, hypocritical and complacent, but never because they're Scottish.

You aren't really helping that steretype, and like many whinging Scots make the mistake of thinking that we are as bothered by our neighbours as you are about yours (just like you think the English care when you support any football team to play against us - we really don't). Live and let live. Get the chip off your shoulder. If an English person winds you up, they're doing it because you're such easy game. Just laugh at them - you just look silly for taking anything they say seriously.

Nobody whinges about the Scots because they are Scots. Their Scottishness is irrelevant. The issue is simply one of fairness. How can it be fair that, in the same United Kingdom, England is allocated £1,085 per capita health spending, while Scotland gets £1,262 per capita and many other benefits? We are all equally taxed, so where is the justification?

I've never heard anyone complain before about where people are from. I do agree, however, that scottish MP's should not be allowed to vote on purely english issues because they are not representing the people who are affected. I am an advocate of English regional assemblies e.g. The North West, because I dont think London MP's should decide on issues that only affect people in an English region - same principal I think youll find! I am half scottish and half english and my grandad always used to say that it is not about race it is about place - we are one people! If you truly want scottish independence from the UK then vote SNP - but I think that youll find not many of them want that anymore, just like plaid cymru. A degree of self governance but with the political, economic etc benefits of being part of a larger community is what we all want!!

I'm English and proud of it, i do not class myself as British the same way Scots don't seem to. However i have never whinged about Scots in Parliament i couldn't give two hoots. But don't Scots have their own government type thing? how many of its members are English? And actually why do the Scottish people hate the English so much? It seems so juvenile.
