It's awful. Completely unbelievable. A lot of people say that he died doing what he loved which I think is fair enough, though I imagine that his family are devastated. What an unlucky way to go.
The only thing that worries me now is that as he was making a documentary at the time, there is bound to be some footage of him either being attacked or as he died, and I just hope for his family that this doesn't come to light in the press.

Truly sad indeed. A sad day for the preservation and respect for animals too. Crocodile Hunter brought a lot of needed attention to the animals we share our planet with. He will be missed.

Very sad, yes. He was a genuine guy. But what was so tragic about his death? He died doing what he loved best. And getting paid for it!! A stingray barb to the heart must have been so quick and relatively painless, I doubt he knew much about it. So, sad? Yes. Tragic? Maybe not. Thanks for the memories, Steve.

He died living how he wanted to live-I feel sad for his two children they are only 8 and 2, and his wife, I dread to think how they are feeling at the moment, but I know how I would feel and there are just no words of comfort.

To the guy who said why is everyone so sad: Well he was Elvis Presley of Austrailia and animals if you know what I mean, Also he showed how great nature really is. I feel sorry for Aussies and friends/family of Irwin.

It's sad that he has died but it is not a tragedy or a surprise. He took unnecessary risks when filming wildlife and was always destinied for an early death.
