Hi - I'm thinking about accepting a job offer in San Francisco. I hear there are a lot of homosexuals there. My family is a pretty liberal yet somewhat traditional Muslim family. Is it pretty crazy in SF with gay culture being in-your-face or is it the kind of thing you really have to seek out? Just want to know what life is like there... Thanks!

Well, there's a HUGE gay pride parade every June, gay bars in just about every district of the city, gays actually working side be side with straights in major corporations - even with pictures of their same sex partners on their desks and inviting them to company functions!

That all seems perfectly normal to me. If you consider that to be in-your-face, or are offended when same-sex partners kiss goodbye at the bus stop or hold hands walking down the street, then don't move there.

I would suggest contacting some SF muslims to get their take on the city. What I described does exist, but it becomes old hat pretty fast and you'll probably not notice it after awhile.

Just like any big city. Homeless hitting on you for spare change every 20 ft. Plenty of great places in the city but you better have LOTS of money to afford to live there.

It depends on what part of S F-you're talking about. Being gay and out will be in your face. If your family can't handle it, you'd better find a neighborhood really far out in suburbs.
