Books by Guy Gavriel Kay are great, well written stories. The Fionavar Tapestry is a trilogy ala The Lord of the Rings (The Summer Tree, The Darkest Road, The Wandering Fire) that is sort of an homage to JRR Tolkien. The Lions of Al-Rassan, Sailing to Sarntium, A Song for Arbonne , The Lord of Emporers, and The Last Light of the Sun are all set in a world with a history and geography much like Earth’s. Tigane is a great story, and again rich with his story-telling art.

The Coconut Oil Miracle by Dr. Bruce Fife. It's about the health and nutritional benefits of coconut oil and coconut products. I know, sounds a little weird, but it shows how coconut oil can increase metabolism, help in weight reduction, promote healthy, clean skin, and provide a wealth of immune system benefits. It's written in an easy to read style, and he provides all the scientific proof you'd want. Has loads of testimonies from folks who have really been helped by it. Personally, I've had three or four age spots on my arms just flake off after using it for a month or so. It's really a miracle food that has kept Pacific Island dwellers, and others who have incorporated coconut into their diet-and not other unhealthy foods- virtually free from heart disease, diabetes, obesity, and a lot of other serious illnesses that plague cultures that load up on hydrogenated oil prepared products. Check it out. If you're young and this seems irrelevant buy it for a present for someone 50 years old or older that likes to read and is health conscious. It's easily worth the $15.00 investment.

I enjoy books that cover a life or family over an entire lifetime or era. If you like those types of books, then I recommend: John Steinbeck's Grapes of Wrath or East of Eden, John Irving's A Prayer for Owen Meany or The World According to Garp, Sheri Reynolds' Rapture of Canaan or any book by Lavryle Spencer.

Diana Gabaldon Outlander series - part scifi, part adventure, part romance -- can't put them down -- I've just reread the series for about the fourth time.
Terry Pratchett Discworld series - some books are better than others but as a whole they are great fun.
Anita Blake series by Laurell Hamilton - a grownup vampire slayer.
Jasper Fforde writes some of the most fun books, my favorite is the Big Over Easy.
Linda Fairstein writes good thrillers - I prefer her to Patricia Cornwall.
Lord of the Rings trilogy is an absolute must. As is all of Robert Heinlein.

My two favorite books of all time are "To Kill a Mockingbird" and "The Diary of Anne Frank". I would recommend either of them. Also, "The Kite Runner" by Khaled Hoseini, I finished that book in 2 days and then had to re-read it because it was so moving and such a compelling read. If you like true stories I'd recommend any of the "Child Called It" books and a book called "Mafia Summer" that is a memoir based on true life.

I can't recommend much fiction but non-fiction I am reading a good one right now called Behind Europe's Curtain by John Gunther, it is an older book, but newer doesn't mean better right.
