A few weeks ago, I would have said nine: Mercury, Venus, Earth, Mar, Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus, Neptune, Pluto.

You can remember the order by the neumoic device: "My very educated mother just served us nine pizzas" (or when I learned it, it was while pluto was closer in than Neptune, so it was "My very educated mother just served us pistachio nuts"). The first letter in each word is the first letter in each planet in order.

But recently, astronomers demoted Pluto, so it no longer counts as a plant (it's a minor planet or something like that). So I guess now it's just "My very educated mother just served us nuts."
