You mean to blow their noses in ?? I don't think ladies every really did that - it was more men carrying them...well yea I guess the women did too but I like to use something clean. My grandpa used those..haha.. I always though it was kinda yucky to blow your nose in it and put it back in your pocket. :o)

Maybe because handkerchiefs are disgusting and unsanitary. When it comes to my snot, I'd rather blow it onto something disposable and throw it away instead of putting it back into my pocket. That's nasty! I don't understand why anyone would use that in the first place.

Sanitary reasons. Growing up that's all my parents would use when they were out. Today you never see anyone.
