Bollywood makes musical, sentimental, melodramatic crap. No Hollywood has no rivals, you are correct. Don't listen to people who just want to show off their far-from-exclusive "knowledge." Hollywood is what it is because 5 of the major studios were all founded by eastern European immigrants who immigrated to the US around the same time, and who were all born within a very small radius of each other in Eastern Europe. Strange but true. People of their ethno-religious minority persuasion seemed to have a gift for arts and entertainment and America was the proud inheritor of that legacy. Of course now we have the capital and the tradition to sustain that legacy, giving an even better foothold on the film market.

It has rivals, but no serious rivals. It is, and will remain, the center of the movie business.
It started out that way because of weather. The people who shot the first successful film in Los Angeles (a Western named "The Squaw Man") were originally planning to shoot in another western state (Arizona), but it rained. A lot. So they packed up and moved to L.A., where the weather is about as perfect as it gets in the States.
That ability to film outside most of the year caused early film-makers to converge on Hollywood. Then, as the industry grew, it became a matter of inertia. All of the businesses that support film-making are in L.A. (such as costume makers, prop suppliers, camera companies, agents, editors, writers, etc). As well as the vast majority of studio sound stages and a huge pool of acting talent to choose from. It's a community of experts. Making a film anywhere else is difficult, because they don't have that local technical support to fall back on.
