Well some mufflers are louder than others and the rule is the shorter the muffler the louder it will be but it also depends on the size of your engine. A V-8 powered car will be louder than a 4 cylinder. I personally like Magnaflow but there are others. Go to there websites and you can hear what they sound like. And yes depending on where you live you can be cited for loud exhaust but as long as you get a 50 state legal system or muffler from one of the sites mentioned you should be OK. Whatever you do DON'T get one of those "fart cans" Those mufflers that are enormous and sit at the back of most imports. Those things are such a joke.

No offense intended, but I would rather make more power and less noise. Less chance of a fix up ticket or otherwise being harassed by the cops. If you want to be loud, get a set of glass packs as they're cheap and give the most noise.

it depends on your exhuast pipe, not the muffler tip. the fatter the pipe, the deeper the sound. the straighter the pipe the louder it gets. if you are getting a muffler tip, then the smaller the muffler, the louder (higher tone), the bigger the deeper. personally i dont like the loud ones, but i like the deep tone ones.

We used to put "glass packs" on ours. They looked like skinny coffee cans about two feet long.."Thrush" and "Cherry-Bombs were a few of the names. They sounded great, but of course we had the horsepower to match..these little zippy cars Hondas and etc crack me up with their noisy exhausts they think they're something..Anyway watch out for the police, they can hassle you if they want to about it. You might want to think twice about it, I mean, why give them a reason to pull you over?
