Possums can carry rabies and other diseases. Leave it alone or call animal control. They do eat insects and baby mice and rats. For the most part they are harmless. Just Ugly!

If the possom found a way into your backyard, then it will find a way out of your backyard. They are quite skillful at climbing trees, scaling fences etc. If he is still there tomorrow, then call animal control. The last thing that you want to do is mess with a possom!!! Teeth, tail, claws... you know, all that good stuff. Just be sure to keep small dogs and cats inside if you have any. Big dogs too if you don't want to take a chance of rabies. My big dogs chase them out of the yard. They scare the begeebers out the them.
GOOD LUCK!!!

NO WAY!!!! LEAVE IT ALONE!!!! If you corner a possom, they WILL jump at you. If you live in an area where there are woods he will go away. They are nocturnal and you dont see them during the day. If you do, I would suspect it to possibly be rabid and at that point I would call animal control.

Call animal control. Possoms are known to have rabies or carry disease. You don't want to risk getting bitten. And if it feels threatened it may come after you!

Outside my place I saw the biggest possum I've ever seen! She's as big as a burly adult raccoon (there's a family of five in the hood--they're nice). She had kids late spring and I've watched them grow. Occasionally we leave kitty food out for a stray cat or what. The juvenille possums'll come and get it late at night.
They don't do any harm; they won't attack you. If they come up to you when you're outside say, "Hey possum (or raccoons), what's up?" They'll run off, unless you motion to them that you want to give them something. I had a raccoon come up and grab food out of my hand once. Another one thought it would be fun to crawl up on my back. They're cool animals, really. Just put a rock on top of your trash though. Animal control will kill them. That's pretty messed up. They're just furry dudes who have just as much a right to hang around as you. All you gotta do is make sure you feed them only when you want to. Otherwise, they'll leave you way the hell alone.

Leave it alone. Don't try to capture it. Like raccoons and skunks they come out at night looking for food. But if you see it in broad daylight acting bizarrely or aggressively then it very well may be rabid. DON'T GO NEAR IT. Call animal control. If it's out there only after dark don't bother it.

A dog should be trained on how to eat, walk with you, not to bark, potty training and sleep on its place etc. You can teach anything to your puppy, dogs get trained easily with some good instructions. If you want some good training tips visit https://tr.im/OlhCJ
If properly trained, they should also understand whistle and gesture equivalents for all the relevant commands, e.g. short whistle or finger raised sit, long whistle or flat hand lay down, and so on.
It's important that they also get gestures and whistles as voice may not be sufficient over long distances and under certain circumstances.

Don't worry about it. Possums are not usually a problem, and since they're resistant to diseases like rabies, they're not a real danger. If it really bothers you, it's probably best to call animal control, simply because they have--or should have--more experience.

call animal control or local police. Opossums are mean and defensive. They cannot see well and are known carriers of rabies and ticks that carry Lyme's disease.
