Don't listen to cutie, she has some issues.
Spy Sweeper run internally on your computer, so your DSL should have nothing to do with it. Trying doing these things and see if your scan speed increases. A computer full of garbage has to be scanned, garbage and all. Putting out the garbage should help.
Cleaning your computer.
Clean your Browser Cache:
Tools>Internet Options>General tab>Delete Cookies, Files (check mark the box for OFFline Content in the window that appears) and Clear History buttons.
Go to the Sites button by Temp. Files and change the number to 50.
Check your HD for Defragmenting:
Start>All Programs>Accessories>System Tools> Disk Defragmenter.
Clear Temp. Windows Files:
Exit all running programs, including browser, except your AV and AS programs. Exiting these might be necessary later (not usually).
Start>Run> type "%temp%" (no quotes)>OK>in the menu bar go to "Edit" click Select All>in the expanded menu select Delete or right click on the pane with the files highlighted and select Delete. When finished Close window.
Clear clutter in DSL modem (If used) and RAM:
Turn off the modem, computer and monitor in this order. Wait a minute or two and then restart in reverse order. Turning off he computer clears the RAM of clutter.

There could be a lot of reasons!
I don't think your broadband connection has anything to do with it, unless some sort of spyware/virus was accidentally installed that is slowing down your computer.
Do you have a lot of extra applications running? What else was installed? What about antivirus?
I would recommend that you try Lavasoft AdAware. In my opinion this is the best spyware removal progra out there.

just because it says 3 hours dosent mean that there is something wrong with the computer, you might have downloaded an update which scan's for additional types of spywares which it turn makes the scan take longer, or if u install any new programs or files the program will take longer to do a complete scan, but as long as everything else is working fine then you have no problems on your computer.

might need to delete cookies, temp internet files etc, to cut down on file scans. might not take as long as it says. I dont think broadband has anything to do with it. I only scan my local C drive, cause thats what holds everything.

Do not use Xoftspy! It was listed on the "Rogue/Suspect" list but was delisted. With this questionable history, I would definitely not use it.
